WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Transportation Security Administration announced it had screened 1.357 million U.S. airport passengers on Friday. This is the highest number since March 15, 2020, when air traffic began to recover after a pandemic-related decline.

COVID-19 has destroyed the demand for air travel. U.S. airline passenger demand fell 60% in 2020 and 63% in January. But with a growing number of Americans being vaccinated, the demand and advance bookings have increased in recent weeks. Friday’s numbers were still 38% lower than before COVID-19.
