Selective competitors prompts college students to run digital insurance coverage companies
The Selective Insurance Group has launched a student competition that will be held at eight colleges across the country by February. The annual competition offers student teams the opportunity to gain experience in building insurance careers and networking by running a simulated insurance agency.
“Selective’s college competition offers the next generation of insurance professionals the opportunity to experience and solve real-world situations in a simulated learning environment,” said Shadi Albert, executive vice president of insurance strategy and business development, Selective. “With the support and assistance of insurance professionals from selective and independent insurance agencies, students have the opportunity to gain insights and perspectives that will help them compete and in their future career.”

Teams from the following schools take part in the competition:
- Appalachian State University
- Ball State University
- Illinois State University
- Middle Tennessee State University
- Indiana State University
- St. Joseph University
- Temple University
- University of North Carolina – Charlotte
Each team in the competition will run a simulated insurance agency. To compete, students must use their education and experience to make informed business decisions about building market share, developing products and services, increasing profits, promoting their agency, and competing with competitors. The teams are supervised by experts from selected and independent insurance agencies.
