NEW YORK (Reuters) – A woman who sued former chief executive of Apollo Global Management (NYSE 🙂 Inc, Leon Black, on charges of sexual abuse and defamation, made “proven false” new allegations linking him with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein Black’s lawyers said on Wednesday.
The lawsuit in a New York State court was in response to Guzel Ganieva’s amended civil lawsuit saying the private equity billionaire flown her to Florida https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/ russian-model-suing-leon-black-alleges-billionaires-ties-jeffrey-epstein-2021-08-10 in 2008 because of a possible sexual encounter with his “best friend” Epstein.
“Black’s billions and his powerful connections will not prevent the truth from shedding light,” Ganiva’s lawyer Jeanne Christensen said in a statement. “We are confident that a jury made up of colleagues from Ms. Ganieva Black will be held accountable.”
Ganieva, a former Russian model in her late 30s, demands unspecified damages from Black and accuses https://www.reuters.com/business/womans-lawsuit-accuses-leon-black-defamation-violent-behavior-2021-06 – 01 for rape and other sexual abuse, the 70-year-old forced her to sign a 2015 nondisclosure agreement and defamed her by claiming she tried to blackmail him.
Black, who is married, has https://www.reuters.com/world/us/leon-black-rejects-russian-womans-claims-violent-behavior-files-countersuit-2021-07-19 denied the abuse allegations. He also said he paid Ganieva $ 100,000 a month for several years to avoid talking about their consensual 6-1 / 2-year relationship after asking for $ 100 million.
Payments were halted after Ganieva tweeted about Black in March.
In Wednesday’s filing, Black’s lawyers called for Ganieva’s “miraculous sudden recall” for her August 9 complaint about “shocking sexual torture and threats to sell her,” which were omitted from their original June 1 complaint.
The attorneys said this included “baseless” allegations with Epstein that would prove untrue flight records and other evidence.
“Ganieva has a story of inventing stories of bullying, harassment, disrespect – and worse – in hopes of winning a payday for herself,” the file reads.
Black has resigned https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-apollo-global-ceo/leon-black-step-downs-as-apollo-ceo-after-review-of-epstein-ties-idUKKBN29U2LK from Apollo that year after an outside independent review found he paid Epstein $ 158 million in tax and estate planning.
The review also stated that Black was not involved in Epstein’s criminal activities.
Black has publicly said he regrets his involvement with Epstein, who killed himself in a Manhattan prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
Wednesday’s filing also stated that Black is no longer pursuing his previous defamation counterclaims against Ganieva, a move his lawyers said would keep him focused on the defense.
Ganieva’s attorneys said court rules prohibited withdrawing the counterclaims because her client responded to them and that Black counterclaimed to gain positive media attention.
