Insurance coverage Information: COVID-19 claims and telematics for auto

In 2020, COVID-19 has taken its toll. Unfortunately, just because we are saying goodbye to a turbulent year does not mean that we can say goodbye to the pandemic or its effects.

In this edition of Insurance News Analysis, the last of the calendar year, Natalie de Freitas and I discuss the impact of the pandemic on insurers and employees. While insurers are re-reporting the forecast cost of claims, questions remain about the future of business interruption as an insurance offering and the possible increase in parametric coverage.

The impact on employee compensation is also complex. Fewer workplace injuries may be the only silver lining on the dark cloud of COVID-19.

There is also some interesting news in the auto sector. Automakers are beginning to leverage their ownership advantage in the race for their own vehicle usage data. The insurance prices and claims options available through telematics make this race a race worth seeing.

Natalie and I also take a moment to talk about our vacation plans for late December and into the new year. While I’m not complaining, her plans sound a little quieter than mine.
