(Reuters) – India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi (NYSE 🙂 ‘s personal Twitter cell phone has been “compromised for a very short time,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a tweet early Sunday.

The matter escalated to Twitter and the Prime Minister’s personal Twitter handle @narendramodi was immediately secured, said PMO India’s tweet, adding that any tweet shared during the brief time the account was compromised, must be ignored.

How long Modi’s personal Twitter handle, which had over 73 million followers, was compromised was initially unknown.

Twitter has taken the necessary steps to secure the compromised account as soon as the activity became known, a Twitter spokesperson said in an email to Reuters, adding that an investigation has currently shown no evidence of any other affected accounts.

A similar incident occurred in September 2020 on the Twitter handle of Modi’s personal website @narendramodi_in, with a series of tweets asking followers to donate to a relief fund using cryptocurrency.
