(Reuters) – Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 announced Sunday that one of its New Jersey warehouses was closed out of caution through December 26 after the number of asymptomatic positive cases among workers increased.

“Through our internal COVID-19 test program, we have seen an increase in the number of asymptomatic positive cases in our PNE5 facility in northern New Jersey and we proactively closed the site out of caution by December 26,” an Amazon spokeswoman said in one Statement to Reuters.

Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, does not anticipate any impact on operations or delivery due to this closure.

It was not reported how many workers in the PNE5 facility, a sorting center, had the disease.

However, the company said its employees are being paid for the shifts they miss due to the facility’s closure.

In October, Amazon announced that more than 19,000 of its U.S. frontline workers have contracted the coronavirus this year, up 1.44% of the total. This has been advocated by workers who have criticized the company’s COVID-19 response.

Some employees, elected officials and unions have said in recent months that Amazon has endangered the health of its employees by keeping warehouses open during the pandemic.

The company had announced that it would expand virus tests to 50,000 US employees per day by November through internal capacities.
