AIG faucets HR veteran for world position

American International Group (AIG) announced the appointment of Lisa M. Buckingham as Executive Vice President and Global Head of AIG Enterprise Design and Life & Retirement Separation, effective April. Buckingham (pictured above) will be based in New York and report to AIG President and CEO Peter Zaffino.

“AIG is undergoing transformational change and is actively shaping a simpler and more effective corporate structure as we seek to separate AIG’s life and retirement businesses through an IPO or sale of up to 19.9% ​​as a first step,” said Zaffino. “Lisa brings with her significant expertise and leadership skills that will help make the separation successful and ensure that the organization of life and retirement, as well as the remaining businesses of AIG, enable them to continue to operate as market leaders in their respective industries.”

Buckingham has over three decades of corporate management experience. She joins AIG from Lincoln Financial Group, where she served as Executive Vice President and Chief People, Place and Brand Officer. In 2018 she was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources. In 2017 she was named HR Executive of the Year by HR Executive Magazine. In 2015, she was named one of Forbes’ top ten hiring managers.

“I am excited to join AIG as a new era begins under Peter Zaffino’s leadership and to work with Peter and the rest of his executive team on separating AIG’s life and retirement businesses,” said Buckingham. “In this newly created role, I look forward to helping AIG unleash significant value for its shareholders and other stakeholders.”
